City Councilor Nesario G. Awat said that he is proposing to institutionalize the livelihood assistance program to organizations in the city in a bid to uplift their economic conditions.

During the Kuridas Team’s grand rally held at City Coliseum, Awat said that he is pushing for the city government’s support that will create a positive impact to the lives of the ordinary members of these people’s organizations.

“Sinusulong natin na mas mapa-unlad pa ang kabuhayan ng ating mga kababayan. Dapat mayroong impact ang mga programang ito,” he said.

He told supporters that his office has extended assistance to women’s organizations in Marufinas, Mandaragat, Tagabinet, and Babuyan. He is also helping community-based tourism association in Binduyan, tricycle operators and drivers association (TODA) in Puerto Princess City and WesCom.

He said that the two TODAs has thousands of pesos funds in their organizations coffers and their operations has sustained.

Currently, he is proposing for an ordinance that will establish an assistance mechanism that will sustain the various organizations’ economic endeavors.

“Kung ito ay mapondohan ay makakatulong ito sa maraming miyembro ng mga organisasyon ng Lungsod,” he explained.

His intention for pushing for the institutionalization of the livelihood assistance is to reduce poverty by helping ordinary people increase their income.

“We have to empower our people and we have to free them from the bondage of poverty,” he said.
