Palawan’s Barangay Gender and Development (GAD) Monitors participated in a training towards enhancing disaster preparedness and stress management in their communities held yesterday, June 15, at the VJR Hall of the Provincial Building.

With a strong commitment to safeguarding their residents’ welfare, these dedicated monitors have recently completed the training program designed to equip them with essential skills and knowledge.

Led by experienced disaster response professionals, the training emphasized the importance of preparedness in the face of natural calamities. Participants engaged in practical exercises, including evacuation drills and emergency response simulations, to ensure they are well-prepared for various disaster scenarios. They were trained to effectively coordinate rescue operations, provide first aid, and establish communication networks during emergencies.

Meanwhile, recognizing the critical role of mental well-being during high-stress situations, the training program also included modules on stress management techniques. The Barangay GAD Monitors coming from 20 towns in Palawan received guidance on identifying signs of emotional distress, providing psychological support to affected individuals, and practicing self-care to ensure their own well-being while assisting others.

The initiative, a collaboration between local government units (LGUs), the Palawan Provincial Government, and disaster management agencies, aims to create a resilient and proactive community in Palawan. By empowering Barangay GAD Monitors with the necessary skills, the program seeks to enhance the disaster response capabilities within each barangay, ensuring a prompt and coordinated response to any potential threats.

With their newly acquired skills, each GAD monitor will play a pivotal role in educating their respective communities, raising awareness about disaster risks, and encouraging proactive measures among residents.

Barangay GAD Monitors are set to become key influencers in disaster preparedness, stress management, and resilience-building within Palawan.
By combining their expertise in gender and development with disaster response knowledge and mental awareness, they are poised to make a substantial impact on the well-being of their communities.
