Xena Ashbel Bunio, who was crowned Miss Puerto Princesa 2020 on Tuesday evening, March 3, told the media Tuesday after the pageant that her main advocacy is to promote “ethical and sustainable” fashion in the city.
“Iyong advocacy ko talaga is about fashion since beauty pageants are within the bounds of fashion industry po. Iyong advocacy ko talaga is ‘yong ethical at sustainable fashion in the city. Iyong mga youth talaga [ang focus],” said Bunio.
She added that this advocacy is directed towards the youth of Puerto Princesa while extending her gratitude to everyone who supported her quest to be the title holder.
Bunio also said she did not expect to win the pageant and that she only joined to fulfil her responsibility as the reigning Miss Palawan State University (PSU).
Bunio noted she will work hand in hand with the City Government and join activities aimed at the betterment of Puerto Princesa.
“I really did not expect it at all. Hindi ko po talaga ito ini-expect. Thank you for everyone who supported me. For now magko-cooperate ako with the government to do things to engage in activities that will help the city,” she said.
Bunio was followed by first runner up Wilein Grace Adion from AMA Computer Learning Center, and second runner up Fritzie Mendoza who represented Palawan National School (PNS).
Benanee Remulta, the mother of Bunio, told Palawan Daily News (PDN) Tuesday after the pageant she is thankful to the City of Puerto Princesa for letting her daughter join Miss Puerto Princesa 2020 even while they are originally from Butuan.
“Hindi ko inexpect na mananalo siya kasi nagkasakit ‘yon, nilagnat siya while during sa ano (contest). But I am really very happy and very grateful sa support talaga ng school kasi one-hundred percent talaga ‘yong support ng PSU sa kaniya… Thank you sa Puerto Princesa na tinanggap nila ang anak ko kahit na galing kami sa Butuan. Grateful talaga ako,” said Remulta.
