Aguilar in, Zagala out, as AFP spokesperson

Colonel Medel Aguilar will be the new acting Armed Forces of the Philippines spokesperson replacing Colonel Ramon Zagala, who was also appointed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., as the new Head of the Presidential Security Group (PSG) and Senior Military Assistant to the President (SMAP).

Aguilar is expected to be responsible in promoting the military’s thrust and programs and he will also answer critical issues that will surround the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Before he was appointed, Aguilar was assigned as Deputy Commander of the AFP’s Civil Relations Service (CRS). Civil Relations services is a unit of AFP which engages the public through information and community relations programs. Prior to this assignment, from 2014 to 2015, he was the commander of the 10th Civil Military Operations Battalion of the 10th Infantry “Agila” Division and Commanding Officer of the 49th Infantry Battalion of the 9th Infantry “Spear” Division.

In 2016, he became as Spokesperson of the Cebu-based Central Command. Then in 2019, he was designated as the Philippine Army Provost Marshall, in which he is tasked to implement and ensure discipline, law, order and safety of all personnel within the Philippine Army. Aguilar is a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy ( PMA) Tanglaw Diwa Class of 1992.
