The continuous onslaught of floods and rains brought in the country incurred more than P800 million in damages to the agricultural sector, said the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) on Thursday, January 26.

Based on the council’s latest data, the damage to the sector grew to P885,165,517.43 from its former mark of P883 million that was recorded yesterday, Wednesday, January 25.

The damages to infrastructure, however, breached the P500-million mark–P539,239,624.69–which increased by over P100-million that is higher than the cost that was recorded, too, yesterday, at P430,487,624.68.

According to NDRRMC, the said weather systems encountered in the country mostly affected Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Soccsksargen Region, and BARMM.

As of the release of the report, the death toll stands at 39, while 12 persons were injured, and five others remain missing.

On the other hand, about 1,941,146 individuals or 475,983 families were affected by the weather disturbances.

For the residential damages, about 1,780 houses were damaged, while impassable roads and bridges are at 27 and 15.

As of this writing, another Low Pressure Area (LPA) is being monitored to trigger more rain in several parts of Visayas and Mindanao, while “amihan” will continue to affect parts of Luzon, specifically, in its eastern portion.
