The Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral of Puerto Princesa City will join the nation in celebrating the Feast of Black Nazarene this coming January 9, 2020. A special high concelebrated Mass is scheduled at 5:30 in the afternoon, headed by Bishop Socrates Mesiona.

After the holy Mass, the annual procession or Traslacion of the image of the Black Nazarene will roam around the major streets in the City Proper to and from the Cathedral. After the procession, the traditional “pahalik” will be open to the devotees.

ICP Chancery secretary Anne Badillla said that only the Mass and procession so far are the major activity for the feast here in the City, and they have no restrictions on some devotees that will bring their own Black Nazarene image for a blessing, usually after the celebration of the Mass.

The celebration of Black Nazarene feast in the City is happening in the past years already, drawing attention from devotees that offer and ask help to this life sized image of a dark-skinned image of Jesus Christ kneeling while carrying a cross. The cathedral also houses a White Jesus Nazarene, believed to be a postwar survivor of the said Church.
