Now on its third season, the adrenaline-pumping competition among motorcycle riders in Palawan will continue this March 28 and 29 at the Sta. Monica Race Track in the second cycle of Palawan Motocross series.

Finest Motocross Association of Palawan (FIMAP) will be the officiating team of the event that will be organized by Extreme Puerto Princesa with the City Government as the main host.

Sherwin Corpuz, the official representative of FIMAP, said in an interview that the event will be the third year that FIMAP will spearhead the series.

They started in the first week of February at Bataraza town and then this March here in Puerto Princesa City.

Come April, it will be held in Rizal and on May, in the municipality of Quezon. By June, it will be in Aborlan. Taytay and San Vicente are also being worked out as the next possible sites.

Corpuz said that they are expecting around 130 to 150 riders from Palawan to join the second cycle.

The registration fee per category and respective prizes are soon to be announced by the host group.

Dubbed as Mayor Lucilo Bayron Motocross Competition 2020, the organizers are expecting some riders from different cities and provinces to join the event.

“Nakipag-tie up tayo sa Extreme Puerto Princesa. Sila yung organizer ng karera sa City kasi ang FIMAP ay association of motocross organizer. Ngayon, first time namin makikipag tie-up sa organizer ng Puerto Princesa, para lang po maipasok yung karerang gagawin ng Puerto Princesa sa Palawan Motocross series,” Corpuz said.

The categories for the competition are; beginners, open production, intermediate production, open production, 40 up production, beginners Enduro, Open Enduro, Expert Enduro, Intermediate Enduro, 35 up Enduro, Pantra, 65CC, 85CC, Pitbike All 2 Stroke and Pitbike All 4 Stroke.

“FIMAP will focus as the jury. Meaning to say, kami po yung mag-screen ng mga riders na pwedeng tumakbo in particular category based on their skills. In the past year, may mga records na kami ng mga riders so madali na namin made-determine yun. Also, the recording of their laps sa finish line, yun yung pag arrange, tabulation of scores para sa overall champion,” Corpuz added.

Corpuz, who is the current tourism officer of Narra, said that the major factor why FIMAP was formed was because of the initiative of all the tourism officers in the province to make the series per season as a come-on for sports tourism.

He mentioned that FIMAP was also supported by the Games and Amusement Board and was able to support some bikers from Palawan who compete in different races in and outside the Philippines.  Among them were Jomari Cruz, Kurt Lleyton Fillizar and Benjamin Hassim.

“May support na ganun;  yung na declare nating Enduro King na si Jomar Cruz nag compete siya sa Iloilo facing other Enduro Kings of different provinces. Also Benjamin Hassim ng Española, siya po ay dinala rin ng Team Philippines  sa ibang bansa representing Palawan and Philippines,” Corpuz said in closing.
