The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Barangay Antipuluan in Narra town has implemented its Basura Palit Pera program by buying empty bottles of 300ml Mountain Dew Bottle in an effort to minimize solid wastes in their barangay.

They will buy 300ml empty bottle at P1 each, and they will need more than 2,000 pieces of these empty bottles.

Alvin Paredes Yan, SK chairman of Antipuluan, Narra said that they will start buying empty bottles tomorrow, April 20, 2020. He believed that this is also one way of helping their barangay constituents during this time of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

“I was inspired po sa mga nakikita ko na pictures kung papaano nila ginagamit na decorations yung mga mountain dew bottles. So naisip ko po na gawin ‘to as part of the solid waste management campaign para at the same time makakatulong sa mga kabarangay po na magka-income kahit papaano sa gitna ng ECQ,” he said.

Yan informed that they will make a trash bins made of empty bottles and also they will form empty bottles into big visible letters “I Love SK Antipuluan”.

“I believe din po kasi na this way, ma-involve natin yung community sa project. Pag nakita nila yung output, masabi din nila na, ay part ako nyan, yung iba (na bottles) sa akin galing,” Yan further said.

He said that if this project will become successful he intends to continue buying empty bottles in order to sustain the initiative. He also said that this endeavor is also in support of their barangay and municipality’s Solid Waste Management Program.
