Consecutive brownouts are happening in various municipalities in Southern Palawan since last week and residents expressed dismay over the situation.

Residents from Brookes Point town experienced almost three days of power outage resulting to array of detractors over the services of Palawan Electric Cooperative (PALECO) and other sub-power provider.

One resident, who requested for anynomity, said that he lost a profit over his frozen fish and products business.

“Nabulokan na ako ng paninda kasi nga ang tagal magka-ilaw. Sana lang pati mga freezer ko di maapektuhan,” he said.

Power was restored to Brookes Pt. Monday night after almost three days of loss.

Meanwhile, in Bataraza, residents also call out to local providers to sought a more acceptable solution to ease the power service situation experienced in the province.

Vilma Baalan, a housewife from the town who makes a living out of making ice candies and salads, said that PALECO should find a solution to address the rotational brownouts which is happening all over the province almost every day.

“Sana maayos na nila, magawan ba ng paraan. Kasi marami napipinsala. Wala namang pera para sa generator,” Baalan said.

In the municipality of Narra, residents report that they have been experiencing brownouts every night since Friday.

Lydia Tanjusay, an 80-year-old senior citizen, said that at night she makes sure she has her flashlight with her since power outages has been an occasional incident every night for them now.

“Kasi alam mo naman, matanda na, malabo na ang mata. Maganda na ‘yung kapag dumilim at nawalan ng ilaw alam ko agad kung saan ko kakapain. Mahirap walang kuryente,” Tanjusay said.

On the other hand, PALECO, on their recent press release cleared that rotational brownouts in the south was caused by a fault in one of the transmission lines of the National Power Corporation (NPC) in Barangay Labog, Sofronio, Espanola, Palawan.

According to intial reports received by PALECO, a wood fell into the transmission line which caused power outages in the municipalities in the south. Line faults, which takes a time to be repaired, were also cited as another reason for the rotational brownouts.
