DILG evaluates Province of Palawan for the SGLG

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) conducted the validation and assessment in the Provincial Government of Palawan last week for the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG).

DILG-MIMAROPA Assistant Regional Director (ARD) Noel Bartolabac headed the Regional Assessment Team. He was accompanied by Andrew Gonzalvo, who represented Haribon-a non-government organization, and other team members.

The team validated and assessed all the documentary requirements in the seven categories of SGLG including Financial Administration, Disaster Preparedness, Social Protection, Peace and Order, Business Friendliness and Competitiveness, Environmental Protection and Tourism, Culture and the Arts.

DILG ARD Bartolabac explained that the provincial government’s attainment of SGLG award is a proof that it has improved and upscaled its services to its constituencies.

“It is very important for the Provincial Government of Palawan to pass the SGLG qualifications, ito kasi yung magsisilbing katibayan na talagang maganda ang pamamalakad ng lokal na gobyerno sa kanyang nasasakupan at naibigay nito yung mga services and goods needed by the community,” he said.

The province’s documents, reports, etc was presented by Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Abigail Ablana for the social protection category, while Sammy Magbanua and Mary Rose Caabay from Culture and the Arts Office discussed the provincial government’s initiatives under the Cultural Heritage Promotion and Conservation category. Maribel Buni and Rosalyn Palanca from the Provincial Tourism Promotions and Development Office presented programs and initiatives under Tourism Development Category, OIC Provincial Accountant Erlinda Rizada, Provincial Treasurer Elino Mondragon, and Elizabeth Macasaet, Edna Maligro presented the province’s accomplishments for the Financial Administration category. Willy Ortega and Atty. Noel Aquino of Provincial ENRO on the other hand, presented their project and output in the Environmental Management category while Zharra Tablate, Aiza Salloman and Florfe Anne Fernandez were resource persons for peace and order categories. Dr. Myrna Lacanilao of Livelihood Projects Management Unit reported the activities, programs and projects on Business Friendliness and Competitiveness, while Jeremias Alili and Yanika Seratubias of the Provincial DRRM Office presented updates, projects and accomplishments under the Disaster Preparedness category.

The team likewise conducted field assessment in the towns of Aborlan and Narra to inspect the early warning devices, search and rescue equipment which is part of the provincial DRRM projects. The team likewise visited the Evacuation Center in Brooke’s Point, and Narra Municipal Hospital, one of the medical facility operated by the Provincial Government.
