Palawan Governor Jose Chaves Alvarez on Friday, May 31, rallied the support of Provincial Capitol employees behind the partitioning of the island into three new provinces by disseminating regarding the benefits it will bring.

“Magtulungan tayo para ipalaganap and 3-in-1 Palawan kasi it is the right thing to do,” said the governor.

Republic Act No. 11259 titled “An Act Dividing the Province of Palawan into Three (3) Provinces, Namely: Palawan Del Norte, Palawan Oriental, and Palawan Del Sur,” was signed by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte last April 5, 2019.

According to PIO Palawan article, Governor Alvarez said that the law will increase Palawan’s Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) from P2.4 billion to P6 billion which will further increase the fund of the provinces for its projects.

RA 11259 states that the municipalities that will be included in Palawan Del Norte province will be Coron, Culion, Busuanga, Linapacan, El Nido and Taytay as its capital. Palawan Oriental includes Araceli, Dumaran, Cuyo, Agutaya, Magsaysay, Cagayancillo, San Vicente with Roxas as the capital. On the other hand, Palawan Del Sur will be composed of Aborlan, Narra, Quezon, Rizal, Bataraza, Balabac, Kalayaan, Española and Brooke’s Point as capital.

The last step for the law to finally be implemented is the support of the Palaweños in the upcoming plebiscite to be conducted by Commision on Elections on May 2020.

The plebiscite will be participated by the affected Palaweños from the municipalities which do not include Puerto Princesa City.
