A recent ordinance sponsored by Narra Councilor Keren Socrates banning people from spitting in any public place in the municipality has now been approved and imposed on local residents in the town.
Based on the published ordinance, spitting in streets, alleys, sidewalks, parks, markets, public halls, convention centers, schools, churches, and other public places will now be a punishable offense with a fine ranging from P500 to P2, 500 for repeat offenders and may be strictly subjected to attend a health seminar provided by the Municipal Health Office.
Explaining the measure, the ordinance said that scientific findings from experts showed that COVID-19 can transmit from one person to another through droplets or body fluid.
This means that a person carrying the virus can unintentionally transmit COVID-19 to another person by the expulsion of saliva, mucus, phlegm and other substances from the mouth and nose.
The Narra legislative council agreed to designate the local police, Bantay Narra and barangay officials to be their sanitary officers to enforce the ordinance into immediate effect.
