Initiated by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), Palawan Women Foundation (PWF) and Palawan government, the new center has a 40-bed residential care service facility that will serve as a temporary shelter for women who are victims-survivors of violence and abuse.

PSWD Officer Abigail Ablaña and representatives from the provincial government led the said inauguration.

“The clamor of different partners particularly our highly esteemed is to transfer the women and girls who are residents of the center in a more conducive and healthy environment; and to help them heal and recover from the sad and traumatic experiences that they went through. This came as a challenge for the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office and the PGP as well,” said Ablaña.

The LWC will provide protection and rehabilitation services through the provision of medical, psychological, residential care, legal, spiritual and values formation and educational assistance.

The primary goal of the facility is to ensure basic and safety needs of its clients such as food, clothing and security throughout their stay in the Center for a maximum of six months or depending on the readiness of the client.

According to the Philippine Commission on Women, clients will be admitted to the center through referrals only from the Provincial and Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (P/MSWDO) and PNP Women and Child Protection Desk (PNP-WCPD).

The new LWC will also provide psychosocial interventions such as critical incidence stress debriefing, individual and group therapy sessions which are the core of its social services program with assistance from Ospital of Palawan and Philippine Mental Association.
