Governor V. Dennis M. Socrates on Friday, August 18, led the inauguration of the first-ever iodized salt processing facility in the MIMAROPA region, located in the province of Palawan.
The Blessing and Inauguration of Dumaran Iodized Processing Facility took place at Barangay Danleg in Dumaran town and was attended by notable figures including DOST-MIMAROPA Regional Director Ma. Josefina Abilay, Mayor Richard Herrera, Vice-Mayor Arnel Caabay, Provincial Planning and Development Officer Officer-In-Charge Sharlene D. Vilches, and other local government officials.
The Dumaran Iodized Salt Processing Center is a joint effort of the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO), the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) MIMAROPA, and the local government of Dumaran.
Its establishment aims to enhance the quality and production of salt through modern processing techniques, moving away from traditional solar salt production methods.
The facility is poised to benefit rural and coastal communities, providing opportunities for small businesses and improving the livelihoods of low-income families.
The launch included a Mass, ribbon-cutting ceremony, and tour of the processing center. The occasion was also marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOU) between the Provincial Government and LGU Dumaran, formalizing the turnover of the Dumaran Salt Facility.
Governor Socrates expressed gratitude to the previous administration and all agencies involved in making the project operational.
Mayor Herrera also extended his appreciation to the Provincial Government and DOST for bringing this project to fruition, highlighting its positive impact on the residents of Dumaran.
