The Palawan Electric Cooperative draws flak on social media after issuing an erroneous electricity bill to a local resident in Quezon town amounting to over ₱2.3 Million.
A certain Rose Geronimo posted a photo on Facebook showing the receipt of their electricity bill with a caption, “[shock emoji] PALECO QUEZON PALAWAN [laughing emoji] ano nangyari meron na ba k[a]mi PABRIKA d[i]to? Nadaig pa y[a]ta n[a]min ang elec[tric] bill ng buong City in 1 month.”
The receipt shown in the post bares the total amount due of ₱2,312,638.50 with due date on August 28, 2020.
Palawan Daily News tried to reach Rose Geronimo to get her side on the issue but she has yet to respond to our call for comment.
Paleco explains
In an interview with Palawan Daily News, Paleco Quezon area chief Vic Villanueva confirmed that the erroneous bill amounting to ₱2. 3M was printed from their office and issued to the customer on August 14.
He clarified that it was mistakenly encoded by their newly hired staff which still under training.
“Yung encoder ko po kasi bago[ng hire lang], nasa magwa-one month palang,” Villanueva added.
Meanwhile, Paleco area manager Cesar Miraflores apologized on the incident citing that this was an isolated case.
“We really apologize na nagkagano’n, nevertheless ginagawa po namin ‘yung correct measures immediately ‘pag nakita namin na there was an error,” Miraflores said.
He stressed that this normally happens not only in Paleco but in the whole power industry because everything is computerized especially in the calculation of electricity bill and that errors like this are inevitable, but assures the consumers that they will do their best to avoid such cases to happen in the future.
Moreover, Villanueva added that their office is open anytime for the residents of Quezon town should there any concerns with regards to their electricity bill.
“Dun po sa ating mga customer na nakatanggap ng biglaang pagtaas pwede naman pong isangguni sa opisina.” Villanueva said.
