The Provincial Government of Palawan conducted a training among its employees on Geographic Information System (GIS) recently for the mapping of tourism assets, including destinations, establishments and tourism development projects on the island.

The Provincial Planning and Development Office, through Filbert Paduga, Vincent Ramos and John Paul Aguilar, facilitated the training for the staff of the Provincial Tourism Promotions and Development Office (PTPDO).

The training will help them in the gathering and analysis of data and information on tourism assets, documentation of tourism establishments, destinations, potential tourism attraction and existing projects related to tourism in Palawan.

The training on geotagging is the first phase of the GIS training, which will be conducted while the inventory of tourism assets is ongoing.

“Pwede mong i-consolidate yung investment areas. Hindi lang ‘yung number ng accommodation establishments ang pwede mong i-map doon, pero pwede mong tingnan kung saan ang mga investment areas,” explained Maribel C. Buñi, Provincial Tourism Officer.

PTPDO also conducted a training and seminar on travel and tour operations and management on May 15, 2019 in Island Front Multipurpose Building.

The activity was done in partnership with the municipal government of El Nido and Bacuit El Nido Travel and Tours Association, Inc.

Mr. Paul Lim So, a Department of Tourism (DOT) accredited trainer, facilitated the training.
