To raise additional funds for the establishment of a blood center in the province, the Philippine Red Cross – Palawan Chapter will host the Invitational Color Fun Run on September 22 in Puerto Princesa City.
RJ dela Calzada of Red Cross Palawan Chapter said that they have already accumulated funds to finally construct a blood center in this province this year but it is not enough.
“Ipapatayo na natin ang blood center dito sa Red Cross Palawan. Meron na tayong mga generator, med techs, kailangan nalang natin nf physical structure and other documents,” dela Calzada said.
Dela Calzada informed that there is actually a sufficient supply of blood in Palawan but blood testings are made in Manila, which takes time.
It’s the reason patients who are in desperate need of blood have to wait for days in order to get a blood donation.
Once a blood center is established, the wait will be over and the process of donating blood to patients will be fast-tracked.
“Hindi nagkaka-ubusan. Mabagal lang ang testing ng dugo kasi dinadala pa ng Manila,” dela Calzada said.
“Kapag nagka-blood center na tayo, ‘yung mga dugo, hindi na ipapadala ng Manila kasi that takes time. Dati puwede kami mag-test, kaso nabago ang requirements ni DOH, so kinailangan namin habulin ‘yun,” he added.
Dela Calzada said that the permit for the blood center will be submitted in November and the facility is expected to start functioning in the first quarter of 2020.
Meanwhile, Dela Calzada announced that the color fun run is open to all Palaweños who want participate and help the fund-raising event.
“We need to raise funds to support our cause. Invitation natin ito sa lahat ng Palaweños to join the fun run on September 22. It’s worth P350 registration, may t-shirt na kayo, ‘yung kikitain natin sa color fun-run will contribute sa establishment ng blood center,” dela Calzada said.
