The Municipal Health Officer of Coron confirms that the recent Russian tourist is free from having Corona virus (2019 nCov).

“Based sa ginawa naming investigation, very unlikely po na infected siya with [novel] Corona virus. Wala pong need for isolating the subject,” Dr. Allan Guintapan, municipal health officer of Coron said through  a text message, referring to a Russian national tourist who previously believed to have symptoms of nCoV.

“Definitely, nCoV Free na ang Coron,” he affirmed.

This is also supported by DOH-CHD MIMAROPA Health Education and Promotion Officer Romalyn Racho stating that the tourist is now in a good condition.

But despite of the good news, Dr. Guintapan said that the Local Government of Coron will continue to monitor all of the tourists who will be arriving through airport and seaports.

The issue of 2019-nCov case in Coron happened earlier this week when a private physician posted a comment that rapidly circulating online, saying that she had a foreign patient, a Russian national who was accompanied by an oriental woman and both came from Wuhan City, Hubei Province in China. Because of the fear of the public, the next day, the Health Department issued a press statement reiterating that the said issue is “unverified.”

Because of this, the LGU right away conducted a thorough case investigation, in close coordination with the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU). As part of the validation, they invited the doctor and the two foreigners who sought consultation; they even requested her and her staff to isolate themselves until the issue is not clear.

To further educate the public about the new emerging illness, the DOH-CHD MIMAROPA will visit the province next week in order to provide advisory and IEC materials to crowed places, attend the monthly “Kapihan” of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and conduct radio hopping.
