To better the skills of tourist van drivers, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan passed a resolution in their first post-election session recommending to the Land Transportation Office the conduct of a more rigid training among these drivers who are important tourism front-liners.
As thousands of tourists flock into the island, tourist van drivers play a vital role in the delivery of the best tourism-related services to these people so the drivers must be made to understand the need to always practice defensive driving and to be on the lookout for their passengers’ well-being and safety.
Board Member David Francis Ponce De Leon sponsored the resolution as more and more tourist vans seek franchise from the Land Transportation Office given the increasing number of tourists who need their services.
Tourists, especially those who travel in groups, charter vans in going around Puerto Princesa City and to other tourist destinations outside of the provincial capital for ease and cost-efficiency.
The resolution was passed by the provincial legislature fresh from the election fever during its 139th Regular Session on May 21.
