The Sangguniang Panlalawigan requested the Department of Information Communications and Technology (DICT) to provide free Wi-Fi to all barangays in Palawan that can be easily accessed by Palaweños during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Through Resolution No. 301-21 entitled “Reiterating the Request to The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to Provide Free Wi-Fi to All Barangays in Palawan for Easy Access During the Time of Pandemic.” authored by Board Member Maria Angela Sabando.

According to BM Sabando, many Palaweños are having problems when it comes to the internet, particularly students and even teachers and it is difficult for them to enter their virtual classes.

“Kasi nakita naman natin kung gaano kahirap ngayon ‘yung access sa free Wi-Fi, kasi ang gastos gastos… Marami ang nagrereklamo… mga teachers, college students, nagpapaload pa sila para maka-avail lang nung internet connections, connecting to their virtual class.” Sabando said on her Privilege Speech.

“So malaking tulong sana kung ‘yung [august] body natin ngayon ay strongly reiterating and urging Office of the President thru DICT na sana maaksyunan na ito.. kasi may klase na naman tapos wala na namang gamit ang mga estudyante. Kahit man lang sana doon sa mga baranggay covered court maka-avail sila ng free Wi-Fi para makatulong sa kanilang virtual class.” she added.

The said resolution was approved by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan at their 104th Regular Session on Tuesday, August 17. It is also a reiteration of the same resolution last August 25, 2020 requesting the Office of the President thru the said agency to have free Wi-Fi to all barangays in the Province of Palawan.
