The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Palawan approved Resolution No. 264-21 entitled “Respectfully requesting the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), through its Palawan-outlet Supervisor Romelita F. Hernandez, to conduct mobile or satellite registration for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) Step 2 in the municipalities and barangays in the Province of Palawan” authored by Board Member Ryan Dagsa Maminta.
The purpose of the resolution is to extend the PSA service to remote municipalities and barangays to ensure that Palaweños can register because there may be only a limited number of people who can register at the designated local registration centers in Puerto Princesa City.
“The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) was directed to expedite the implementation of the PhilSys registration ahead of its target date in order to augment and maximize its impact with the ongoing implementation of the government’s social protection programs, in view of the COVID-19 pandemic,” as stated in the resolution.
BM Maminta believed that the PSA leadership should only interact and cooperate with every barangay and municipality in the Province to fulfill the purpose of Republic Act No. 11055 or the Philippine Identification System Act.
PhilSys’s step 2 registration includes validation of demographic information and recording of each individual’s biometric data such as iris scan, fingerprint scan and front-facing photograph.
Meanwhile, the resolution requesting the PSA to intensify Information, Education and Communication (IEC) aimed at the constituents of the Province regarding the provision of Republic Act No. 11055 pertaining to PhilSys was also approved by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
