Save Palawan Movement sought the to stop the division of Palawan by filing a case with the Supreme Court.

The group filed a petition before the Supreme Court seeking the issuance of a writ of prohibition with preliminary injunction and temporary restraining order against the Commission on elections, Department of Budget and Management, and Provincial Treasurer and the Provincial Government of Palawan in connection with the implementation of Republic Act 11259, “An Act Dividing the Province of Palawan into Three Provinces, namely: Palawan del Norte, Palawan Oriental and Palawan del Sur.”

The petitioners argued that RA 11259 violated the Constitutional provisions on people’s right to suffrage regarding the matters directly affecting them, that it substantially alters the sharing of the local government units concerned in the sharing of natural wealth, and that there were no public consultations or public hearings involving Palawan stakeholders, such as the fisherfolks, indigenous people, farmers, youth, academic institutions, women and people’s organizations.

Save Palawan Movement is organizing a press conference tomorrow, June 27, 2019, at 8:00-10:00 am, Bulwagang Princesa.
