The regional office of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) recently spearheaded the creation of the Palawan Island Tripartite Industrial Peace Council (TIPC), which was attended by various companies and stakeholders across different industries in the island province of Palawan.

Regional Director Joel M. Gonzales of DOLE MIMAROPA said the Palawan Island PITC will foster harmonious labor relations, maintain industrial peace, higher productivity, and industrial harmony among establishments and workers.

The council, he further explained, is a self-sustaining body governed by a set of rules and understanding of laws, guidelines and advisories in the areas of industry clusters councils; responsible unionism and labor management cooperation; occupational safety and health; skills development and professionalism; wages, livelihood and compensation; career development and employment and efficiency and integrity and monitoring for improvement.

“We need to shift our mindset from being regulatory-focused to becoming customer-focused,” said Undersecretary Rowel S. Barba as he discussed the Philippine competitiveness in the context of tripartism.

Barba also stressed out that doing business in the government offices and agencies must be efficient. “We should do things with ease,” Barba said adding that that there must be efficient and fast government services that are fully automated.

Undersecretary Barba encouraged everyone to develop competitiveness and to work together to raise good governance. “Let us put our heads together to bring a strong foundation for an inclusive growth.”

With the theme, “A Reengineered TIPC Fostering Industrial Harmony for Competitiveness,” the event was held at the Bestwestern Plus The Ivywall Hotel at Puerto Princesa City last November 15, 2018.

The following day, the newly elected officers of the Palawan Island TIPC took their oath administered by DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III.

The Tripartite Industrial Peace Council (TIPC) was established through an Executive Order No. 403 issued by then President Corazon C. Aquino on May 30, 1990 to attain industrial peace through meaningful tripartite consultations among the representatives from Labor, Employer and Government sectors in the formulation and implementation of labor and social policies.
