PUERTO PRINCESA CITY – Berong Nickel Corporation joined in the recently concluded “Pista Y’ Ang Kagueban” or Pista ng Kagubatan at Barangay Montible by providing seedlings and afterwards headed to Barangay San Manuel to plant mangrove seedlings.

The BNC was composed of 40 participants headed by the BNC Resident Manager Engr. Marc Raymund L. Zamora, Community Relations Head Marcial V. Bolen, Safety and Health Head Rolando L. Sajot, Mine Environmental Protection and Enhancement Office Head Jay Pee R. Dela Cruz, and 30 other employees from different departments of the company and 6 BNC scholars.

The BNC did not just participate in the tree planting event but also brought along 2,000 seedlings of indigenous forest tree species such as Narra, Ipil, Pink Shower and Palyan Red.

The seedlings brought by BNC were also shared with other attendees and participants who have no seedlings to plant.

In coordination with the Puerto Princesa City Environment and Natural Resources Office (PPC ENRO), the company was given and assigned a 2-hectare area for BNC to plant with indigenous forest tree species, and to maintain and protect the area.

Berong Nickel Corporation’s celebration of Pista Y Ang Kagueban did not end with the tree planting activity in Barangay Montible. BNC continued the spirit of the festival with another activity: a mangrove tree planting activity.

The mangrove tree planting activity was held at Barangay San Manuel in Puerto Princesa City, which is also the area where the 2018 Love Affair with Nature was held last February 14.

BNC planted a total of 8,000 mangrove propaqgules comprised of 3,000 Bakhaw Bato and 5,000 Tangal propagules, along with the 2,100 Tangal previously planted during the Love Affair with Nature. The mangrove plantation will be continuously maintained and protected by BNC until the mangroves grow and survive without human intervention.

Berong Nickel Corporation promised to attend and participate again in the activity and bring more seedlings for the people to plant.
