The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) has started the construction of the P32-million Talog Small Irrigation Project (SIP) in Barangay Talog, Taytay town that is expected to help irrigate some 87 hectares of rice land.
The project includes the construction of a dam and canal lining with a total length of 4.2 kilometers and is expected to benefit some 45 farmers and the community of Barangay Talog, nearby barangays and the town of Taytay, in general.
It was awarded to Yurich Builders & Construction Supply which will undertake the project for 330 calendar days.
Daryle Cayao-Camara of the NIA-Palawan Irrigation Management Office (PIMO) said that as of this week the contractor already accomplished 50 percent.
The accomplishment was documented during the project site visit and inspection this week by NIA-PIMO Division Manager Engr. Conrado V. Cardenas Jr.
“The contractor had already completed 2.318 kilometers of canal lining and 213 meters of elevated flume. Currently, they are working on the remaining 1.75 km canal, backfilling of completed canal lining and the ongoing construction of Talog dam. Talog SIP started last August 2019 and is expected to be operational earlier than the completion target dated July 2020,” Camara said.
She said that once the project is completed, it will be turned over to Talog Irrigators Association Inc. who will manage and maintain the whole system to irrigate 87 hectares of rice field in the municipality of Taytay.
NIA further said that 2019 irrigation projects are strictly being monitored by them to assure the quality of irrigation structures and observe cleanliness on the service canal to improve the delivery of irrigation services for the farmers of Palawan.
