One fisherman died while two others were rescued about 3:30 PM Wednesday, in Sitio Malobotlobot, Barangay Maroyogroyog, Linapacan, Palawan.

A spot report from authorities identified the fatality as Romeo Heredero, 60 years old, married, fisherman, while the survivors were identified as Peter Heredero, 29 years old, single, fisherman and Anselmo Ultra, 25 years old, single, fisherman, all residents of Barangay Magalalambay, Busuanga, Palawan.

Investigation revealed that on the night November 30, the three went on a fishing trip in the vicinity of Galoc Point, Culion but were not able to go back due to typhoon “Tisoy”.

Survivor Peter Heredero recounted that they were anchored and having their rest when suddenly, their motor banca was hit by a passing vessel which he failed to identify due to darkness. As an impact, their motor banca capsized and the three of them were left floating in the seawater using an improvised raft for almost five days.

Unfortunately, Romeo Heredero died before they were even rescued.

It can be recalled that as early as last week, PAGASA, the country’s weather state bureau, warned of heavy monsoon rains, thunderstorms, and rain-triggered landslides amid typhoon “Tisoy” making sea travel risky in areas affected including northern Palawan.
