The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced that the suspension of the registration of voters in the whole country has been extended until April 30.
In a Memorandum COVID-19-4 issued by the Commission yesterday and shared to the media by Provincial Comelec spokesperson Jomel Ordas, Acting Comelec Secretary Consuelo Diola informed Acting Deputy Executive Director for Operations Teopisto Elnas Jr. that his recommendation for the extension of suspension due to Corona Virus Disease 2019 outbreak was approved.
This order extends the earlier Comelec En Banc’s suspension of March 10-31 ongoing system of continuing registration of voters due to the threat of pandemic disease.
As the content of the first memorandum said, the Comelec will monitor the situation for either an earlier termination or extension of the suspension when the condition so warrants, but in line with President Rodrigo Duterte’s announcement in the implementation of Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) for the whole Luzon and the concurrence of the Elections and Barangay Affairs Department (EBAD), Elnas’ recommendation was guaranteed after the thorough deliberation.
Included also of the Memorandum is the suspension of April 20, 2020 ERB Hearing that according to Comelec, this is also for similar reason.
