Bringing home the bacon, Palawan State University (PSU) was hailed as the 2019 Southern Tagalog Regional Association of State Universities and Colleges (STRASUC) Olympics first runner-up which was held in Odiongan, Romblon last November 22 – 27.
PSU garnering a total of 71 golds, 73 silvers, and 61 bronze medals is second to Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU) with 88 golds, 69 silvers, and 49 bronze medals. On the other hand, Cavite State University ranked third with 56 golds, 42 silvers and 54 bronze medals.
Abdul-Wahid N. Mama-o, PSU first year BS in Mechanical Engineering student and a gold medalist in Lawn Tennis Mixed Doubles shared his delight and pride in representing the university during the 2019 STRASUC Olympics.
“Kinagagalak ko na mairepresenta and aking eskwelahan bilang atleta at magbigay parangal rito. Bukod pa roon, pangarap ko rin talagang makatungtong ng STRASUC kaya naman hindi ko na sinayang ang pagkakataon at aking pinagsikapan na maguwi ng gintong medalya para sa aking unibersidad,” said the student athlete.
Participating state universities and colleges are; Palawan State University, Western Philippines University, Marinduque State College, Mindoro State College of Agriculture and Technology, Romblon State University, University of the Philippines – Los Baños, Laguna State Polytechnic University, Batangas State University, Southern Luzon State University, and University of Rizal System.
With the theme “Strengthening Fellowship and Alliance Through Sports”, the 2019 STRASUC Olympics was attended by 1,912 athletes and staff from the colleges and universities in Region IV-A CALABARZON and Region IV-B MIMAROPA.
