The City Council has finally approved Monday a “route plan” that will allow tricycles to temporarily traverse on designated portions of national roads in Puerto Princesa.

The ordinance was approved by the plenary during its third and final reading Monday, to assist the affected population during the implementation of tricycle ban along national highways, which took into consideration the public safety as well.

Authored by former transportation committee chair Elgin Robert Damasco, this SDO No. 94-2020 noted on its title that portions of the national roads designated under the measure, were all in accordance with the memorandum circulars issued by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the guidelines issued by the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

Aside from tricycles, pedicabs and motorized pedicabs are also covered by the temporary route plan.

In the earlier draft of the measure obtained by the media, this Tricycle Route Plan (TRP) temporarily designates the following national roads wherein these vehicles are allowed to “traverse” namely the Malvar Street; portion of Rizal Avenue starting from port area to Roxas Street and vice versa; portion of Rizal Avenue starting from corner Lagan Road to Canigaran and vice versa; and from Abanico Road to Crocodile Farm in Barangay Irawan vice versa.

Also under the measure, tricycles, pedicabs, and motorized pedicabs may “cross” the following national roads:

However, certain amendments were already made on the measure upon approval.

The media tried to secure a copy of the final draft of this approved measure Monday for a more concrete reference, but they are yet to be given a copy.
