DOLE reg’l office picks City PESO as region’s best

The regional office of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has chosen the Public Empoyment Service Office (PESO) of the City Government of Puerto Princesa as the regional winner on the Search for Best PESO 2019.

In his letter to City Mayor Lucilo R. Bayron through the City’s PESO Manager Demetrio A. Lopez Jr., OIC-regional director of the DOLE, Albert E. Gutib congratulated Puerto Princesa City for their good performance.

Gutib said that for being selected as one of the best PESO in the region, the City PESO will be the nominee to the national awards subject to the evaluation of the Bureau of Local Employment.

“We commend and extend our gratitude to you and your men and women on the PESO headed by Mr. Lopez for you have proven to be our dedicated partner in the implementation and facilitation of the Department’s programs and services for our clients in the City of Puerto Princesa,” his letter to Mayor Bayron reads.

The DOLE conducted the Search for Best PESO to recognize the exemplary performance of the DOLE partners in the provision of employment programs and services. The nationwide search also aims to benchmark the practices observed and implemented by the PESOs worthy of emulation and enhancement in the delivery of services and realization of its mandate.

Among the PESO’s main programs implemented in various LGUs include Employment facilitation services, Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES), establishment of Electronic Manpower and Skills Registry System (e-MSRS) in the locality. e-MSRS provides readily available local manpower database for companies addressing the growing problem on talents mismatch and unemployment.

The Republic Act No. 8759 known as the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Act was passed into law in 1999. Since then, various PESO offices has been established and accredited by the DOLE. PESO is a multi-employment service facility managed by Local Government Units (LGUs) and State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) that upholds equal employment opportunities to every individual covered in the locality.

PESO aims to fill job vacancies through referral and placement, career counseling, trainings, and seminars. PESO accommodates various individuals including job seekers, employers, students, out-of-school youth, migratory workers, and persons with disabilities.
