The Palawan State University Student Government announced today, February 17, the upcoming virtual and limited face-to-face celebration of Binturungan 2022 with the theme “reminiscing the past, celebrating the present, envisioning the future,” and is one of the events celebrating PSU’s 50th founding anniversary and student week.

The Binturungan will be celebrating its 3rd year aiming to promote the talents and potentials of PSU students through the different activities prepared by the USG, college, and university-wide organization heads.

Through this initiative, the student leaders aim to showcase the students’ talents, skills, and passion in different categories such as music, arts, language, and e-sports.

In an interview with Palawan Daily, Mac Kirby Lumakang, the President of PSU Student Government, said student leaders help each other to conceptualize activities for this year’s celebration. “We have decided to prepare for activities that can be done and presented in the online setting while also preparing a series of categories for our students to showcase their talent, not just in the field of academics,” said Kirby.

He also explains the theme is in appreciation of the past 50 years of the university and to ponder the meaning and relevance of golden anniversary. “We have an activity called ’50 years of Legacy’ to show how much PSU has changed and what were the things that brought PSU to what it is right now,” he added.

The contests open to PSU students are GINTONG LITRATO, a photography contest open to PSU students on all campuses until February 27, 2022. Using their mobile phones and cameras, they must create artistic photographs in line with the theme “Pusong PSU: Katatagan sa Paglipas ng Panahon” that shows students’ challenges, lessons, hardships, and courage as it entails the spirit of being a PSUan.

According to the organizer, the winner of the said competition will be the ‘golden’ photo story of the university in its 50th year.

PRО̄MĒRE is a virtual public speaking competition open to all PSU students until February 23, 2022. With the theme “Nurturing Students’ Language towards a Global Future,” contestants must wear formal attire during the competition on March 1, 2022, via Zoom.

The competition is in partnership with Toastmasters International, and the champion will have an opportunity to be their scholar.

For those who love to sing, PSU Singing Idols is here for them. For the contest, a solo participant from each college must submit his 3 to 4-minute music video entry until February 27.

There will also be a contest for the university’s storytellers, the Poetry Film-Making Competition titled “Mulat,” a quiz-bee titled KAHOOTAKAN for academically-inclined students, and a writing contest titled “War on Words” for those who loves expressing their emotions using their pens.

“Celebrating the present, on the order hand, is how we will celebrate the golden anniversary despite the challenges presented by the status quo. And lastly, envisioning the future is about combining both the past and the present, learning from it, and envisioning that PSU will flourish with all the milestones presented and challenges accepted,” Kirby added.
