Barangay Salvacion farmers showcases highland vegetables

The Farm Visit and Harvest Festival in Barangay Salvacion, Puerto Princesa City showcases highland vegetables such as cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce, and other bounties in areas cultivated by members of Salvacion Farmers Association.

The activity spearheaded by the City Agriculture’s Office and Salvacion Farmers Association was graced by City officials led by City Mayor Lucilo R. Bayron, Vice Mayor Nancy Socrates, city councilors, and other local officials including City Agriculturist Melissa Macasaet, DA Agricultural Production Coordinating Officer for Palawan North, Vicente Binasahan Jr. among others.

The activity showcased the bountiful harvest of Salvacion Farmers Association through its Highland Vegetable Production Project of the City Agriculture’s Office and the Kadiwa sa Barangay activity.

Mayor Bayron emphasized the significant roles of the farmers in ensuring food sufficiency in the city that provided economic activities and opportunities to the locals. He said that providing adequate support to agricultural programs will help uplift the conditions of the farmers and the local residents in the barangays.

”Panahon na para pagtuunan ng pansin at patuloy na bigyan ng suporta ang agrikultura dahil ito ay malaking tulong sa ating ekonomiya lalo pa sa panahon ng pandemya,” he said.

The DA-MIMAROPA High-Value Commercial Crops Development Program (HVCCDP) also turnover some farming equipment to Salvacion Farmers Association, including Multi-tiller and multi-purpose grasscutter.

In preparation for the Online Kadiwa Marketing in Palawan, the Project Zacchaeus Marketing Cooperative (PZMC) provided plastic crates intended for vegetable products of Salvacion farmers.

The DA has partnered with PZMC to establish strategic distribution points or marketing centers within the city and in Palawan, therefore, assisting a substantial number of farmers especially in the marketing of their products. The PZMC on their part has developed various e-commerce channels such as Farm Konek, PZC Community Stores, and Go Palengke.
