After a number of houses were razed down by fire in Barangay Sta. Lourdes last week that resulted to two deaths of children, a group of kind-hearted individuals took time to share relief goods, food items and kitchen utensils, November 4, 2018.
The group provided relief items such as canned goods, instant noodles, rice, and cooking utensils that can be used by the affected families. Three families in Purok Honda Bay benefited.
Ms. Maruj Encoy, the organizer, said that when she saw the video of the child who witnessed and survived the harrowing ordeal during the fire, she was deeply saddened and was in tears.
“Napaiyak ako, traumatic masyado sa bata kung malapit lang ako na-ihug ko na sya,” Ms. Maruj said.
“I shared in social media ang video na yun to encourage my friends and others to open their hearts on this kind of situations. I asked them to help me reach those victims na nasunugan. We can help in any kind lalo pa at walang natira sa pamilya natupok lahat.”
The following day, a lot of relief goods and items were collected. “I hope we don’t only help when tragedies happen. We can also help others as long as we can using our connections and actions of willingness to help.
I’ve been doing this matagal na; no posting on social media pero ngayon hindi ko macontrol yung mga nagpo-post and I hope hindi ito ma-misinterpret ng mga kapwa ko,” Ms. Maruj added. The team members were Ken Radam Ebno and Jen Dela Rama.
“I hope that what we are doing will encourage others to open their hearts sa mga nangangailangan. You don’t need to be rich to reach them. We didn’t spend too much to help. Marami tayong mga pinaglumaang damit at iba pang mga gamit na pwede naman po nating e share. Through the efforts of my Ruj Salon family we made it. And I am very happy na nahahawaan ko sila ng pagka positive sa buhay,” Ms. Maruj said.
The fire damaged three houses and partially damaged another one last October 27 claiming the lives of an 11-year-old boy and his one-year-old sister.
