Barangay Sta. Monica announced that it will soon start implementing the directive from the national government to clear roads from any obstructions, and strict enforcement of waste segregation.

During a meeting with barangay officials, purok officials, tanod, barangay health aide, barangay workers and residents, barangay captain Ronaldo “Mong” Sayang informed his constituents that they will soon start clearing the streets and thoroughfare in their barangay to make it orderly.

He also urged them to listen to the information dissemination of the city government since their barangay will likewise enforce solid waste management program that requires every household to segregate their solid wastes.

“Merong bagong hamon sa atin, ito po ay ang order sa Office of the President. Minamandoan lahat ng local government, ini-implement na lahat ng obstructions sa lahat ng national, city, provincial, barangay ayon sa direktiba na tanggalin bahay natin na humahadlang sa Road Right of Way (RROW),” Sayang told his constituents.

He said that Mayor Lucilo R. Bayron directed all punong barangays in Puerto Princesa City to follow the directive of the President.

“Kasama sa tatanggalin ang mga tindahan na pumasok sa kalsada, bakod, sasakyan na naka-parking na matagal ng nakaparada. Kasama yan sa titibagin,” he said.

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has directed all local government units to implement President Rodrigo Duterte’s order to remove obstructions from roads and thoroughfare to ease the flow of traffic.

On waste management initiatives, Sayang said that he sent a letter to all his constituents and urged them to segregate their solid wastes.

Their barangay, with the assistance of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office, is currently conducting information dissemination about wastes segregation in several purok in their barangay.

He said that their barangay has 13 individuals assigned in monitoring of solid waste management in every purok.

Exequel Caliwag, Barangay Kagawad and chairman of the committee on environment, said that the city’s campaign on waste management should reach every households to remind people to properly segregate their solid wastes.

“Dapat ito maka-abot sa bawat bahay, ma explain sa bawat isa. Na dapat mag-segregate ka or else mamultahan ka. Kung magsunog ka, may multa rin. Dapat ito ay maipaliwanag na ito ay hindi biro. Dito ay mabigyan ng pagkakataon na ang mga kabarangay natin ay masabihan at sila ay maka-pirma,” Caliwag said.

Sayang said that removing the structures to ease traffic and proper waste segregation will benefit the people of his barangay.

“Medyo mahirap man po ito, pero talagang yun ang tama. Sundin na lang natin. Kasi at the end of the day, mag benefit tayong lahat,” Sayang said.
