BLGU Sicsican intensifies info drive on SWM

The Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of Sicsican in Puerto Princesa intensified its information, education and communication campaign on solid waste management in an effort to maintain cleanliness within public areas especially in roads and thoroughfares.

Kagawad Roy Dalumpines, who chairs the Committee on Environment said recently that they are targeting to educate at least three purok this week, from January 12 until January 17.

“Iikutin namin ang tatlong purok kasama si Eco-Kolek,” he said, referring to their project sector partner known as Project Zacchaeus Cooperative (PZC) Eco-Kolek local led initiatives whose primary beneficiaries are informal waste pickers.

Dalumpines emphasized that they will get the overwhelming support of their constituents in proper solid wastes management if they are aware about it and understand its importance.

While the barangay officials were dismayed recently when their constituents has not properly dispose their solid wastes and put decomposing wastes material in the metal racks provided by the Barangay. The barangay officials cried foul, informing the public that solid wastes from households should still be managed properly and should not be stockpiled in the metal racks which are now in public places.

Through BLGU-Sicsican’s active involvement in environmental and solid waste management initiatives, they were able to convince the City Government of Puerto Princesa through the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (City ENRO) that the proposed circular economy learning hub will be constructed within a 500-square meter area in their open space located in Purok Talisay.

Punong Barangay Balbino Parangue himself strongly manifested that their barangay is willing to host the city’s circular economy learning hub, an important facility that will guide the public on proper solid wastes management and the 10R.
