City Councilor discourages subdivision developers to extract water from deep well

A city councilor advised subdivision and housing developers in Puerto Princesa City not to rely on deep well as its water source and warned that too much water extraction in deep well might deplete natural resources and unhealthy to the environment.

During a committee meeting of the Sangguniang Panlungsod’s Committee on Environmental Protection presided by City Councilor Jimmy L. Carbonell, this week, City Councilor Henry A. Gadiano told representative of one housing developer in the city, to apply for water connection from Puerto Princesa City Water District (PPCWD) instead of resorting to extraction of water from deep well.

Councilor Gadiano further said that some towns and cities in the country became within risk-zones due to sink hole, and overextraction of water has been considered as one of the factors that contributed of having sink holes.

He explained that in a subdivision, the water consumption for both households, and other uses are normally high, especially for big subdivisions which the water supply demand is very high.

“We are discouraging deep well because of its danger sa environment. Sa ibang lugar ito ang dahilan ng sink hole, because of too much na pagkuha ng tubig. Its not good for the environment. Hindi maganda ang paggamit ng deep well on larger scale tulad nito na subdivision, mataas talaga ang consumption,” Councilor Gadiano said.

But the real estate/ housing developer said that they have applied for water connections with PPCWD, but only opted to deep well when PPCWD has not acted on their request.

Gadiano still advised their company to follow up their application for water connection, in order not to deplete water resources and the natural environment due to potential overextraction.
