The Dumaran Rural Agricultural Center (RAC) in Purok Masagana, Barangay Danleg, Dumaran town, Palawan, was officially opened to the public, especially for farmers and fisherfolk, in a ceremony held on August 4, 2023. The establishment of this facility was carried out under the 2nd Palawan Integrated Area Development Project, following the directive of Governor V. Dennis M. Socrates and supervised by the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA).
The RAC will serve as a knowledge hub for modern farming and fishing techniques, utilizing state-of-the-art technologies provided by the Provincial Government. Its main objective is to educate individuals in the field of agriculture, particularly in increasing crop yields and generating additional income.
According to Dr. Romeo M. Cabungcal, Provincial Agriculturist, the center will collaborate with the Office of the Municipal Agriculture and the Office of the Provincial Agriculture, as well as other National Government agencies, to offer various skill development programs and training opportunities.
Among the features found at the center are nature-based vegetable production, model urban vegetable production, herbs and mints, a mini orchidarium, fruit tree seedlings production, rubber tree production, high-value fruit tree production, and free-range chicken facilities.
Cabungcal emphasized the significance of such a facility in fostering agricultural and fishery development, encouraging local farmers and fisherfolk to make the most of the center’s resources.
In conjunction with the center’s reopening, cash donations were provided to select beneficiaries of the Rice Enhancement Program, while materials and seedlings were turned over to recipients of the locally-funded Food Always in the Home (FAITH) Program, both initiatives being spearheaded by the Provincial Government.
Additionally, seaweed materials were ceremonially handed over to various fishing organizations, with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) expected to launch a seaweed nursery to further assist them.
