The City Government of Puerto Princesa is not looking to have its resident under Herd immunity for now against COVID-19, the City Incident Management Team have no study at present according to their Commander Dr. Dean Palanca.

Herd immunity according to World Health Organization is also known as population immunity, an indirect protection from infectious disease by means of vaccination. The WHO supports achieving ‘herd immunity’ through vaccination, simply because it controls the spread of the disease and unnecessary cases and deaths.

The Department of Health already announced that they target herd immunity by the year 2023 for the whole country.

“Right now wala pa, actually ang sabi para makapag herd immunity at least 70% ng population ng Puerto Princesa ang mabakunahan, so kung less than that hindi ‘yun ang target for herd immunity pero wala pa po kaming napag-usapan tungkol do’n or sa study po roon,” Palanca said during the recently concluded Palawan Travel Expo at Hue Hotel last March 15.

Palanca made an appeal to all the City residents to avail and support once the vaccines arrive for the whole community, he defend that whether Sinovac or other brand arrives, it is important that we all accept it.
