The well-known Puerto Princesa City Coliseum was renamed the Edward S. Hagedorn Coliseum in a ceremony held last March 23.
This renaming pays tribute to the late Congressman and former Mayor Edward Solon Hagedorn, in memory of his significant contributions to the city’s culture and tourism.
The occasion was graced by the family of the late Congressman and former Puerto Princesa Mayor. Leading the ceremony were Mrs. Ellen Hagedorn; Mr. Clink Hagedorn and Mrs. Tikay Hagedorn-Villegas, both children of the late Hagedorn; Mr. Greg Villegas; Mrs. Annette Marcelo; and Val Hagedorn Villegas, his grandchild.
During the ceremony, Mrs. Ellen Hagedorn emotionally shared the story behind the construction of the coliseum, recounting how her late husband had witnessed guests suffering from the heat during events at the PALECO gym and thus resolved to build a proper venue.
Councilor Patrick Alex Hagedorn, Chairman of the Committee on Tourism and a close relative of the Hagedorn family, expressed gratitude to Mayor Lucilo Rodriguez Bayron for immortalizing the legacy of former Mayor Edward Hagedorn, emphasizing his exceptional leadership.
Engineer Aries Grande, OIC-City Engineering Officer, and Engineer Jovenee Sagun, City Planning and Development Office Coordinator, tackled the significant contribution of the building erected under the late congressman for the development of tourism and recognition of the city in various fields.
Mayor Lucilo R. Bayron, on the other hand, underscored the importance of recognizing and honoring the excellence in leadership of a former political ally, marking it as a testament to the city’s thriving dreams and achievements for future generations.
