The post of local broadcaster Rouel Caralipio that shows irresponsible dumping of garbage during an event by a Chinese commercial center in the old public market of Puerto Princesa earned many negative reactions and has reach the administration of Chinatown Center.
Chinatown Marketing Officer Mich Masangcay told Palawan Daily News that they read and checked all the comments about the post. She explained that the mall took the responsibility for what happened, and they assured everyone that they did clean the surroundings right after the event, to which they closed Valencia Street from Bonuan Road up to Malvar St.
“Meron naman pong basuharan, may naglilinis naman na housekeeping namin, nataon lang siguro na nakunan nya ng ganun, pero kami mismo mga staff naglilinis nun after ng event.” Masangcay said.
The celebration is in line with the Chinese New Year event they have been doing for the past four years, and this is the only time they received such issues, but they admitted fault for not adding on their program spiels in reminding the public about the proper way to dump their trash and its location. From two cans, they will now add 3 more bins for the public to use during the event.
“Isa po sa naisip na solusyon namin ay magdagdag ng basurahan, nasa dalawa kasi nilagay namin kaya magdadagdag pa kami ng 3 to 4, at yung mga tenants namin ni-require namin na mag linis at huwag nila itapon sa kung saan yung basura.” Masangcay said.
Chinatown Center’s Chinese New Year celebration started last January 20 and will last until Saturday, January 25. Among the events they held on Valencia Street are Dance Cover Concert, Acoustic Night and their annual Ms. Chinatown pageant.
