The Sicsican National High School – Annex in Brgy. Santa Monica, Puerto Princesa is now Santa Monica National High School after being converted into an independent national high school.

On January 3, 2019, Congress approved Republic Act (RA) 11174, which separated the Sicsican National High School – Annex from the Sicsican National High School, converting it into an independent national high school.

RA 11174 mandates that upon the conversion of the school into an independent national high school, all personnel, assets, liabilities, and records of the Sicsican National High School – Annex will be transferred to and absorbed by the Santa Monica National High School.

It is also stated that the amount necessary for the continued operation of the school shall be included in the annual General Appropriations Act.

In August 2016, the push in the Congress to have it approved was led by Congressman Gil “Kabaranggay” P. Acosta together with teachers of the Department of Education in Puerto Princesa.

The act will take effect 15 days after its publication in the Official Gazette or in any newspaper of general circulation. It was published on the Official Gazette on January 29, 2019.
