We are used to read complaints and rants of women being allegedly betrayed by their lovers in social media. We are used to see strangers condemning those whom they have accused as cheaters uncritically. As if these people are clean, they throw insults and some of them even threatened to harm these persons.
But have they not realized that they too have shortcomings in their lives? If they think they are righteous then they are lying to themselves. I believe that as human beings, we are governed by God’s standards of righteousness and of unrighteousness. These standards are written in the Bible which is the Word of God. The Scriptures is vox Dei or the voice of God and it is not the self-righteous, judgmental and hypocritical mob. When Jesus was tested by the Pharisees by asking him, “Should the adulteress be stoned?”, Jesus said that those who never have committed sin should throw the first stone and after that, the people left one by one until only Jesus and the woman remained. The point is this, before you condemn others in the Social Media because of alleged shortcomings and transgressions in their lives, ask yourself if you never have committed a sin in your life?
The Social Media had created a generation of Pharisee. This affected even politics wherein what is political should remain political. In this generation, people tend to unfriend each other because of supporting different candidates. It bred self-righteous Pharisees whom Christ hates. Why does he hate them? It is because of their arrogance and cruelty. They think that they are better than others due to their educational and religious background and they judge others harshly as if they are faultless. And many people in this generation are like the Pharisees.
Sometimes, I am pondering whether or not the social media has caused more harms in the society. I think it did because despite of its importance, it turned brother against brother and sister against sister. It created a generation where many people are like wolves in sheeps’ garb. These people think that they know the people whom they are judging even if they don’t understand the entirety of the story. A good example of this is the incident involving Mr. Christian Merck Grey wherein his former lover accused him of many things even if in reality, the story is much more complex. I am not siding with any of them because I know my limitations in accordance to the laws against libel but there is a story that only God knows. So, many might be causing more harms through the social media because they attack people even if they lack full knowledge of the persons and the circumstances surrounding that.
It pains me to see that Philippines is being sent into downward spiral by the modern -day Pharisees. There are many because of people opening up against a particular human being in the social media. It has become a venue of trial wherein the masses became the judges. In the social media, people become the lawyers and judges overnight. Instead of creating peace, social media has enabled many to be whom Jesus abhors. So, what must be done?
The only thing that is to be done is to pray for the modern-day Pharisees to be convicted by God that what they are doing is wrong. It is wrong to judge a person harshly. Also let us pray for them to have renewed lives. Prayer helps to move mountains and the issue of the modern-day Pharisees are like mountains. So let us pray for them and for their welfare.
