Taal to Mt. Pinatubo
When Taal Volcano spewed ashes, I remembered Mt. Pinatubo’s eruption 29 years ago. I was young then here in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. Mt. Pinatubo is in Pampanga but the ashes spewed from its mouth reached us, thousand miles from where it is located. We were panicking, crying. This eruption killed 800 people and left 200,000 homeless. When Taal erupted, it sent us a plume of smoke and “gray” ashes. Taal is in Batangas, while I was residing in Makati City. Both volcanoes brought us fear…not just from hazardous eruption but… how ready is our government for this kind of situation? What we have seen, what we have experienced were still the same from 2 decades ago. The government still is not prepared in this kind of natural disaster.
TRIKE BAN
DILG again reminded Local Government Units to implement the tricycle/ pedicab ban on highways. This is a direct order to all mayors. If we take a look at this order, it is not a new one. In 2018, Interior Sec. Eduardo Ano called on city and municipal mayors to strictly implement Memorandum Circular 2007-01- banning tricycle and pedicab operations along national highways and prohibiting these vehicles to carry more passengers and goods than what they are designed for, or more than what is authorized in the franchise, among others. It is not hard to implement, EXCEPT, if the local mayors are afraid to lose votes and status. Oh by the way, no need to be afraid…RECALL is the answer (lol!)
NOVEL CORONAVIRUS
As we all know, Palawan is the new hub of Chinese people in the Philippines.
They are everywhere.
The deadly virus, which originated from China, is spreading around the world.
Lucky for those who have the capacity and capability to detect the deadly disease immediately and medically ready to protect their people, unfortunately, we are not. Sad truth.
Instead according to the Dept of Health, self protection is a must and don’t forget…PRAY.
R.I.P. BLACK MAMBA
Today, we all cry.
The death of Kobe Bryant marks the most devastated moment in basketball history.
As we all know, we Filipinos are basketball enthusiasts and Kobe Bryant was part of every Filipino basketball game.
He was not just a player, he was the game!
Thank you and rest peace Black Mamba!
MEETING FRIENDS
I am glad we bumped into each other, a good friend of mine, former PALECO Manager and APEC Rep. Sir Pons Payuyo and Ma’am Dolly. We had a long conversation about stories from our old peers and our new lives. I remember how I was treated well when I was with a local media and he was in PALECO and when my mom died. Truly good hearted people. Hope to meet you again in my next visit.
