AFP enhances joint defense capabilities in amphibious assault drills in palawan

The drills, which are part of the eighth iteration of the AFP’s unilateral training program, were aimed at improving the interoperability of AFP units and enhancing the military’s ability to conduct joint operations across various domains.

A key highlight of the exercise was the combined efforts of personnel from the Philippine Marine Corps’ 3rd Marine Brigade, Philippine Army (PA), Philippine Air Force (PAF), and Philippine Navy (PN).

The training involved a series of breaching operations and live-fire demonstrations utilizing artillery, armored vehicles, squad rocket launcher lights (SRLLs), heavy and light machine guns, and small arms.

In addition, air support from the A-29 Super Tucano aircraft was showcased, underscoring the AFP’s integrated air and ground combat capabilities.

Captain Marissa Meriel, spokesperson for the 3rd Marine Brigade, highlighted that the primary objective of the exercise was to further develop the AFP’s capacity for joint and combined domain operations.

“The exercise focused on improving the interoperability and overall capability of AFP units, ensuring they can operate seamlessly together across different branches and domains,” Meriel stated.

The event was part of a larger effort involving over 3,000 troops from the AFP’s major service units, including the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

The AJEX DAGIT-PA plays a crucial role in strengthening the AFP’s external and territorial defense capabilities, particularly in relation to the country’s Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Concept (CADC).

The CADC, which aims to protect the entire Philippine archipelago and its exclusive economic zone (EEZ), was a central theme of the exercise.

“Through these exercises, the AFP continues to improve its capabilities, integrating systems for joint maritime and air domain operations,” Captain Meriel added.

The exercise also emphasized the importance of defending the nation’s natural resources within its territorial waters and EEZ.

By improving the AFP’s coordination and readiness, the military can better ensure that these resources are protected and available for the Filipino people.

“These joint drills play a key role in ensuring our national security and defense readiness,” Meriel explained, noting the exercise’s critical role in securing the nation’s sovereignty.
