International Webinar on Oil and Gas Industry

The world’s remarkable rate of modernization this past century is undoubtedly akin to a revving engine running on all cylinders, but what is fueling this momentous feat – it’s the oil and gas industry. Serving as the fuel of industries all over the world, the oil and gas industry indeed took a heavy blow amidst industries’ screeching halt due to COVID-19.

Petrosphere Incorporated and Palawan State University (PSU) alongside Malaysian and Indonesian partners, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), and Universitas Pertamina (UP) conducted an international webinar entitled “Impact of COVID-19 on Oil and Gas Industry”, Friday, August 21.

Due to the disease, different industries around the globe have to stop or decrease activity, this caused a demand drop on oil and gas products which eventually led to oil and gas price crash. The webinar aims to teach the participants the current situation of the oil and gas industry to help them to have a grasp on the current situation and to prepare for their safety and the future opportunities in the industry.

“All industries have been impacted by this COVID-19 crisis with varying degrees of severity. As such, we need to develop a rapid response to address current disruptions and repurpose and reshape the supply chain for the future by increasing both resilience and responsibility,” Dr. Ramon M. Docto, university president of PSU, said in his welcome speech.

“Through this webinar, we are to hear the effects and impacts of COVID-19 on the oil and gas industry and how a consumer, student, lecturer, engineers, employee or employers could deal with this effect of this pandemic,” he added.

Speakers were invited from the Philippine-based training and consultancy company Petrosphere Inc and its international partner institutions to discuss three topics: “Impact of COVID-19: Leading in Oil and Gas Uncertainties” by Prof. Dr. Budi W. Soetjipto from Universitas Pertamina, Indonesia, “Digitalization in O&G as a new normal” by Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd. Shahir Liew from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia, and “Impact of COVID-19 among Migrant Workers” by Engr. Harthwell Capistrano, Petrosphere Incorporated, Qatar.

Three partakers were also invited to share their insights on the topics discussed namely, Mr. Zaimizi Hamdani, from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia, Engr. Jerico M. Padrones, from Palawan State University, Philippines and Dr. Wahyu Agung from Universitas Pertamina, Indonesia.
