Explosive fishing device called ‘Bongbong’ kills fisherman in Rizal, Palawan

A fisherman died after an illegal explosive called “Bongbong” allegedly exploded on him while fishing in the waters of Barangay Taburi, Rizal, Palawan, at 4:10 PM on October 14.

According to the Palawan Police Provincial Office (PPO), the victim was identified as alias “Ambo”, 65 years old, and a resident of Barangay Taburi, Rizal.

Initial investigation revealed that the victim left his home around 3:00 PM that afternoon for a fishing trip in his paddle boat. At 4:10 PM, a concerned citizen reportedly heard an explosion from the area where Ambo was fishing.

The victim was rescued by a nearby fisherman who brought him to the seashore and immediately sought medical help. He was rushed to the Rizal District Hospital for medical treatment but was pronounced dead at 6:14 PM that day due to massive blood loss and multiple injuries sustained from the alleged explosion.
