In fulfillment of its commitment to educational advancement and community development, Coral Bay Nickel Corporation (CBNC) unveiled a new computer laboratory made for Western Philippines University Rio Tuba (WPU-RT) on April 3, 2024.
The computer laboratory is expected to help in the technological advancement and academic excellence of students enrolled in the WPU Rio Tuba Campus. “In this present time, nobody is going to survive anymore in this digital society, and in this world without digital know-how. It is now a general requirement, a basic need for professionals. This project embodies a commitment to empowering our students with the tools and resources to succeed the ever evolving digital landscape,” said WPU University President Dr. Amabel S. Liao.
CBNC spent Php 1.6 million from its Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) under the Development of Mining Technology and Geosciences component to complete the project. CBNC recognized the need of the school for a computer laboratory as its computer sets have not been used since because of the absence the computer laboratory building.
“We are thankful that CBNC heeded our request for us to have this building,” said Jinefer Butu the campus administrator.
WPU University President Dr. Amabel S. Liao who was also a mining beneficiary of her hometown in Cebu, expressed her gratitude to CBNC and explained the significance of mining companies’ in education development. “I am a proof that economic gains from mining that are channeled to education will be multiplied and sustained. To our generous donor CBNC, your donation will leave a lasting impact to our students. It will empower countless individuals to pursue their passions, realize their potential and make a positive difference in the world,” said Liao.
CBNC Comrel Manager Bernie Martinez on the other hand said that more than just the physical structure, the project is a testament to the collective dedication of WPU, CBNC, LGU Rio Tuba in providing the best possible resource for the intellectual growth and development of the students aimed to create a brighter future for the students and uplift the standard of living of the people in the community. “Para sa Edukasyon, Para sa Rio Tuba, Para sa Palawan,” Martinez said.
Other than the CBNC Comrel Manager and WPU President, the turnover ceremony was also graced by different heads of WPU Main campus, Local Government Unit of Bataraza represented by SB Laurence Amores, Local Government Unit thru its Punong Barangay Arman T. Gamo and other stakeholders.
