In line with this year’s celebration of International Women’s Month, the Provincial Government of Palawan organized Usapang Palaweña: Women’s Symposium of the Provincial Gender and Development (GAD) Office held on Wednesday, March 8, at the VJR Hall of the provincial building.
The symposium was opened with a speech about the continuous efforts of the provincial government in protecting the rights of Palaweñas and reminding them of their value as one of the most vital contributors of the society from Palawan Governor Victorino Dennis Socrates and Provincial GAD Head Richard Winston Socrates.
The University of Asia and the Pacific Professor Dr. Antonio Torralba, meanwhile, discussed the importance of gender sensitivity.
“Ang role ng mga kababaihan sa paghubog ng komunidad ay mahalagang bigyang pansin dahil dito ay maipapakita nila ang kanilang full potential bilang babae and it is also a way to reduce discrimination and gender bias,” Torralba said.
Devie Mae Navaro from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office engaged the participants in a discussion regarding mental health awareness while Atty. Gellian Baaco and Atty. Mary Joy Cascara, on the other hand, educated the attendees about their lawful rights specifically addressing The Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act and The Safe Spaces Act (Bawal Bastos Law).
