The Department of Energy (DOE), Prime Energy Resources Development, and Malampaya Foundation held discussions with the Palawan Provincial Government on November 15, during their visit to the provincial government.
The focus of the meeting was the ongoing Malampaya Phase 4 Project, and DOE Energy Resource Development Bureau Director Nenito Jariel Jr. emphasized that this visit is a crucial component of their Information, Education, and Communications (IEC) campaign aimed at clarifying the intricate details of the project.
Jariel highlighted the substantial impact of Malampaya on the Philippine economy over the last 30 years.
The joint effort involves ongoing engineering and baseline studies. Following the IEC, the next steps include public scoping with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and subsequent technical scoping.
Chief Regulatory Officer Giboy Salapantan of Prime Energy Resources Development assured that their activities align with national government laws.
Under the Malampaya Phase 4 Project, plans are underway to construct two new wellheads and flow lines in close proximity to the existing facilities of the Malampaya Gas Field, specifically for oil exploration.
Additionally, the group is set to conduct an environmental impact assessment to evaluate the potential ramifications on the province’s natural resources.
