Palawan Provincial Board cites Pura Luka Vega ‘Persona Non Grata’

Palawan has joined the growing list of LGUs in the country declaring drag performer Pura Luka Vega as persona non grata. The Provincial Board unanimously passed a resolution declaring her unwelcome for her “Ama Namin” stunt dressed like Jesus.
Board Member Winston Arzaga stated that the performance deeply offended the sensibilities of Palawan’s predominantly Catholic and Christian population.
The designation of persona non grata, while not barring travel, officially labels a person as “unwanted and unaccepted” in the area. Arzaga clarified that the resolution criticized Vega’s use of the prayer in the performance rather than the drag queen herself.
Arzaga said, “If she did it in a temple, it might be acceptable, but she did it in a bar. That’s why it became deplorable because she turned a prayer that should be venerated inside a church into a parody.”
This development coincided with the celebration of 400 years of Christianity in Palawan on August 24–25. Vega’s performance sparked discussions during a press conference held with clergy members at Balai Padi as part of the preparations for the anniversary event.
